The Whitby Area Contingent Crest Design Competition

We need an ongoing design for all the groups in our area to be able to use when they attend large non-area events like CJs, Brotherhood camps, moots, as well as for out of area, province or overseas visits. And who better to come up with an outstanding crest for these special events than the creative members of our Area?

Rules:

• must be your original design, no having a friend in a design field create for you.
• must be submitted on paper, no larger than 8.5 x 11, in colour. Please do not fold your submission.
• must contain all mandatory elements (see below).
• people entering designs must be members of our area.
• joint entries are allowed.*
• mechanically produced, hand-drawn or cut and pasted submissions are all acceptable.
• cannot include any symbols that identify with an individual group or sponsor.
• entries must have entrant’s name, contact phone number and Group information including his or her Group Commissioner on the back.

Important notes & tips:

• This crest will have a long life, so think beyond CJ when designing.
• Remember Whitby Area includes Ashburn, Brooklin, Cartwright and Port Perry.
• Keep in mind that the finished size will be a maximum of 5 square inches (just a little bigger that our Area crest) and the shape should not be too complex.
• Your design submission does not have to meet this size.
• Please be aware that your design may be modified to fit the finished size and in order to have it converted to a crest.
• A written explanation of the design while not compulsory would be welcome and may help in giving proper consideration to your entry.
• Once selected, the design becomes property of Whitby Area.

* Hey leaders with the younger sections, if you are worried that this may be difficult for your youth to participate in, thought has been given to ensure they are able. Beavers and Cubs can design their entry as a colony/pack effort, or each lodge/six could come up with their own design. If drawing would be difficult, use photocopies of the mandatory elements. Put your Keeo/Kim or junior leaders (or yourselves) into the mix to help with the finer details. Remember, we’ll streamline the winning design to enable actual manufacture so don’t worry about them being a little rough.
