Cuboree:
The Whitby District Cuboree was held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday May 26 to 28 at Heber Down Conservation Area with a ``Western Days'' theme. Fifteen of the 17 packs were represented at the weekend. They dressed up like horses to pull small covered wagons that the packs constructed and they got a chance to ride on a real horse too.
Whitby District Cubbing is on vacation now until September.

This year the weekend took on a different twist as new Scouts (i.e. Cubs that had recently moved on to Scouts) were introduced to the troop program and each troop in attendance presented a ``Show Off Your Best'' event. This was a great recruiting and educational tool, for both the youth and the troop leaders, who took away some valuable program ideas.
Prizes were awarded to the top shooters in individual and team competition as well as in our ever-popular ``turkey'' shoot (involving only a paper turkey, not the real kind).
This event surpassed everyone's expectations and much thanks has to go to the Scouters involved in the planning and running of the various events. They are the following:
Scouters Andre Robichaud and Michael Brooks -- 9th Whitby Scouters Tim Leitch and Ken Gorman -- 10th Whitby Scouter Bruce Danforth -- 8th Whitby Scouter Roger LeDressay -- 5th Whitby Venturer Rob McKeown -- 2nd Fire Venturers
We look forward to seeing everyone and receiving program ideas for our next event which will be J.O.T.A. (Jamboree-on-the-Air) to be held October 20-22 at Enniskillen Conservation Area.
On behalf of my team (Brian Scott and Andre Robichaud), I would like to wish everyone a safe and restful summer, and to say ``SEE YA' IN THE FALL.''

The same day as the shoot-off was the Scoutrees planting at the waterfront where many Venturers were planting before the shoot-off. A big thank-you to the members of the 5th O.P.P. Venturers, (especially Scouter Paul) for the excellent job that they did co-ordinating the parking.
A new event attended this year was the Montreal badge trading day. Members of the 2nd Fire Venturers and an on-the-mend Scouter Phil spent the day trading and the evening checking out sites in La Belle Province.
2nd are planning a big badge-trading day on the first Saturday in December. They already have the Scouts on Stamps and Memorabilia show booked, but need help with a good-sized accessable hall. Please call Scouter Phil or Scouter Jack if you have suggestions.
Most recently, members of the 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 8th attended the Dorchester International Brotherhood Camporee. We had been told that it was a great event and we were not disappointed. Numerous displays and events rivalling a jamboree made this one of the most exciting activities this year. Thanks to Scouters Chris, Kelly, and Neil for taking the composite company.
Bon voyage to Mellissa Dawson of 1st Whitby Venrturers as she heads off to Holland for the world jamboree.
Any groups looking to place youth in Venturing should contact 1st or 8th since both have openings for new members.
Finally, a big district thanks to Edwina and Alex Hourahine who, after decades of service to Scouting youth, are going to pursue some activities just for themselves. Scouter Al and Scouter Mum will be missed.
Good Scouting
Scouter Jack
