While some people got to go and play in the mud on Scoutrees day others had to remain in the parking lot directing cars in and out of the spots. Many thanks go to Scouter Paul Forbes and the 5th Whitby O.P.P. Venturers for doing this task. Some of the youth even missed out on the food that was served at the site. Thanks for doing the great job, it was a clean job but someone had to do it.
Scouter Dave, ADC Venturers
This year, for the first time ever, Scouting youth (Venturers to be precise) met along side the Ontario provincial council. The conference (called "FORUM '96") was a great success. Over the weekend, we covered such topics as why Venturers are unique from other Scouting sections, to "Challenging the 21st Century" a session on all the various program options available to Venturers. The conference was made up of 2 Venturers from each region and one advisor from almost every region. The provincial program team, who put together the event, were very pleased and hope to have an equally exciting conference next year.

On Sunday March 31st, Venturers and Advisors from 1st Ashburn, 2nd Whitby and 4th Whitby participated in the annual Camp Samac Venturer shooting competition. Our Whitby teams and individual shooters shot well and ended up taking home more than their fair share of the medals and trophies. This was a well run event and a good time was had by all.

Following up on the article in the Provincial Notes regarding long service awards I am happy to report that Whitby had its share of these awards. In Whitby District we presented 37-5 year pins, 10-10 year long service awards, 3-15 year pins, 1-20, 1-25 and 1-30 year pin. We also awarded 84 Warrants of Appointment. This means that we recognized 405 years of service in Scouting. Congratulations to all who received long service awards and Warrants, I look forward to seeing your next award come through.

On Saturday April 13, 1996 members of the 2nd, 5th and 8th Whitby Venturer Companies attended the Annual Provincial Conference in Toronto. The Venturers assisted in the set up and take down of the trade show displays and performed other duties as required. A job well done by these 6 Venturers who represented Whitby District and made up the complete Venturer work team for the Provincial Conference.
