WOOD BADGE PART I
Leaders recruited to all sections require certain common basic knowledge, skills and attitudes in
order to be able to contribute to the delivery of a quality program. The leader must complete this
training within 1 year or preferably within 4 months. The Course Training Standard is available
on the Scouts Canada website.
All training is based on the program as defined in Scouts Canada’s publications, applicable
bylaws, policies, procedures, the National Program Standards and any other guidelines
established by Scouts Canada. All program planning and delivery must be appropriate to the
physical, intellectual, social and spiritual capabilities of the youth involved.
Leaders receive the Woodbadge Part I recognition (certificate & turkshead woggle) when they complete the training course.
WOOD BADGE PART II
Section leaders recruited to all sections require certain common advanced knowledge, skills and
attitudes in order to be able to motivate and lead their section teams in the delivery of a quality
program. Leaders develop their knowledge skills in the following three subject areas:
- Advanced Program Delivery
- Advanced Leadership Skills
- Advanced Outdoor Skills
Typical developmental and learning activities may be undertaken in one or more formats,
including on-the-job development and experience, self-study, peer interaction, being coached, or
by participating in training modules or a formal developmental course often held on two or three weekends.
Leaders receive the Wood Badge Part II recognition (neckerchief & beads on a leather thong) when they complete the training course.

Scouting, like most groups of people involved in a specific activity, uses many words specific to their activity ("jargon" words). Provided here are pages with Common Scout Jargon and Scouting Abbreviations and Initialisms that you might find in Whitby Scouting.
