Welcome to the new weekly Flash sign-up page. The Flash has been designed to improve communications among all of the adult members of Whitby Area Scouts.

Why an e-mail newsletter?

The Flash newsletter is primarily sent by e-mail, since this is the fastest and most direct way of communicating with our members. In the past, newsletters have mainly been distributed at council meetings through district council reps. Although this is an inexpensive method, it takes too much time to reach the people who need the news and some don't end up getting it at all.

Almost every section has at least one leader with e-mail. These people will be able to assist with distribution to those in their section with no e-mail.

For those who have no access to e-mail, it is also available by fax and regular mail. Please contact the editor (Neil at 905-655-3429) to have your name added to the fax list.

When is it issued?

It is expected that the Flash will be sent every Saturday during the regular Scouting season and occasionally during the summer. Normally, you should not receive any more than one e-mail per week. The aim is to keep each issue short so that it can be easily read and digested.

Who is it for?

At the present time, we know that at least half our adult members have e-mail access. These people represent almost every section thoughout the district.

This mailing list is open to all registered adult members in Whitby District. We would like to include as many as possible; however, if you are not registered, you will not be approved to be on the list.

We would like to use your sign-up information to produce a directory of adult member to be used within Scouting. If you share an e-mail address with another Scouting member, you won't be able to sign up separately. In this case, please write to webmaster@whitbyscouts.org and we can set up a personal whitbyscouts.org e-mail address that forwards to your present shared address.

Privacy information

Your e-mail address will not be given to anyone outside Scouting. (Topica.com may send you e-mail, depending on your preferences when you sign up. Read Topica's privacy policy for more details.) Please write to newsletter@whitbyscouts.org if you have any special restrictions on your e-mail address or other information that would prevent it from being distributed in print to other Scouters.

One of the purposes of the Flash is to discourage multiple mass e-mailings of information that is of general interest to Scouters in Whitby. Hopefully, much of this can be consolidated into one weekly e-mail, preventing mailbox clutter.
